Summer Farm Camp for Girls
Session V Photos, July 13-17, 2009

The Session V Rebel Riders!!

Session V heading for the trails!

For their field trip, the girls went to the Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm in Bush, Louisiana to
visit with the alpacas and the llama! What beautiful and graceful animals they are,
that is until they spit at you!

Feeding Alpacas!

Cassie gets a kiss!

After the Alpaca Farm, the girls got a snowball at the local stand...

...while I contemplated the next Splendor Farms resident...

...yep, I can see it....it'll be just like the dachshunds....you can't have just one!!!

Session V girls went to Elite Thoroughbreds Farm in Folsom, LA to meet the stallions
and tour the facilities. Elite Thoroughbreds actually consists of two farms, one for the
mamas & babies (dams & foals) and one for the dads (sires). It's a beautiful farm and
highly recognized in the thoroughbred industry. Splendor Farms owns four mares bred to
Elite stallions: Pleasure Fighter is bred to Royal Strand, Emeralds Pause to Roger That, Hanna Kako to Fire Slam, and Sassy Ruler, the mare we paid $400.00 to save from going
to the kill, is bred to Yonaguska (shown below), whose colt, Musket Man, placed 3rd in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness! Wish us luck! On our way home, I heard several girls say they wanted a thoroughbred! (sorry parents!)

Yonaguska!!

Mr. Bobby came to Splendor Farms to teach the girls to shear sheep.
Ashley stepped up to volunteer to help!

Ashley helps Mr. Bobby shear Joe!

The Session V girls learned how to worm and measure worming medication
for goats, sheep, and cats! Here the girls worm Mr. Moe!

Jaelynn worms Sue Ellen, helped by Ashley

PK is not too happy to take his worming medication!

The Session V Ice Cream Makers! The girls didn't want to "cook" something so I
suggested making ice cream! Banana Ice Cream was the choice since strawberry
season is about over, as is blueberry season! Bananas are always in season!

Karlee watches Ashley crush ice for the ice cream

Karlee measures a perfect two cups of cream

Cassie scalds milk and adds whipping cream

The garden at Splendor Farms is starting to die down due to the heat this time of year.
The girls helped out by planting peanuts in 2 teams (team one is above) and then cantelopes, watermelons, and a fall crop of beets and snap beans! Y'all come back in September and you can harvest what you planted!

Peanut Planters, Team Two!

Maggie is very serious about her Banana Pepper picking!

The usual cool off - pool games!

Two in a pool in a pool! Thanks to Taylor from Session One
for giving us the phrase "in a pool in a pool!"
